If you are potentially able to receive your pension early as a result of ill-health you will normally already be discussing this with HR. HR will therefore request quotations on your behalf from the Administration Team.
HR will arrange for you to be assessed by the Company appointed medical adviser. This is to ascertain if you are eligible for ill-health retirement and if so on what basis. There are two levels of ill-health pension. Further information can be found in the Retirement Guide.
The medical adviser will produce a report with their recommendation.
If it is agreed you are eligible for an ill-health pension the Company will advise the Administration Team who will provide the relevant quotation. From this point the retirement process is similar to the process for early retirement.
The Trustee periodically reviews all ill-health pensions that are in payment to assess whether the payments should continue and at what level.
